What is Hajj
Hajj, derived from the Arabic word meaning “to intend a journey,” is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is a mandatory act of worship for every adult Muslim who is physically and financially able to undertake the journey.
Each year, 2 to 3 million Muslims gather in Makkah during the month of Dhu al-Hijjah to perform Hajj — making it the largest annual gathering of humanity. The pilgrimage includes several rituals that were established by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and are rooted in the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
The Main Rites of Hajj

Irham
Entering a state of spiritual purity and equality before Allah.

Tawaf
Circling the Kaaba seven times in Masjid Al-Haram.

Sa’i
Walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah, in memory of Hajar’s search for water.

Arafat
Standing in supplication at Mount Arafat — the pinnacle of Hajj.

Muzdalifah
Spending the night under the open sky, uniting with Muslims from around the world.

Ramy al-Jamarat
Symbolically stoning the pillars that represent Shaytan.

Qurbani
The act of sacrifice commemorating the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).

Tawaf al-Ifadah
The act of sacrifice commemorating the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
